Falling into the Unknown

“Conscious” by Leon Lour

“Conscious” is a song about falling forward. It’s about seeing the ground coming at you, inescapable, inevitable, and uncertain. It’s about leaving a known past behind and being launched forward into the fog. There’s a certain sense of drive to it, like a clock tick and a heart beat at once, with a tinge of sadness from leaving your old life behind while bringing to mind the uninhibited future. Are you running from your past self, or running towards something greater?

Like “Windswept” from my last post, “Conscious” is one of my all-time favorite songs but for almost opposite reasons. For the last couple years studying in college, I commuted from my parents’ house to an 8:00am class and this was one of the songs I played most consistently. There’s something about it that goes so well with the morning sun. I know it’s not necessarily the point of the song, but the mood to me is one of infinite possibility. I hated getting up and out of the door those mornings, but this song did more than just make them bearable. It made them feel like an open door to potential greatness. It felt like the Great Unknown had something amazing in store.
